People's Palace and Winter Gardens

If you've ever wondered about Glasgow's emblem (what's with the bird and the fish?), or wanted to find out more about famous Glaswegians like Billy Connelly, then this is the place for you. The People's Palace tells the story of Glasgow and its people, from its early beginnings but especially in its heyday as the 'Second City of the Empire' in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the political struggles of the 20th century. Great if you're Glasgow born and bred and even better if you're new to the city. There's plenty to interest kids and spark their curiosity - from Billy Connelly's famous 'banana boots' to suffragette paraphernalia.

The recently restored Winter Gardens have a great cafe, and toddlers will love meandering on the paths around the palm trees. The park outside, Glasgow Green, also has a children's swing park. Lots of kids free activities over school holidays and weekends - see What’s On for details.

Tues-Thurs & Sat 10am-5pm; Fri & Sun 11am-5pm Please note: the People's Palace is closed to the public on Mondays. The Winter Gardens, adjacent to the People's Palace, is open on Mondays
